Bryan Babcock One of the top 10 small production winemakers is the world, as chosen by the highly prestigious James Beard Foundation. Bryan Babcock, winemaker for family owned Babcock Winery, has a bachelors degree in Biology and a Masters in Food Science. He began winemaking with the family for the 1984 vintage, starting with an award winning Sauvignon Blanc. Bryan’s winemaking philosophy is centered around the natural characteristics of each grape. Bryan tries painstakingly to maximize the character of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Babcock wines feature cool climate, estate-grown fruit as well as grapes from select local vineyards. Highly intellectual and flavorful, each wine possesses distinctive characteristics. These unique qualities are further showcased in a "Terroir" program with multiple annual offerings of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon labeled with specific vineyard block designations. Within a vintage, one varietal may have several different designations.
