Babcock Winery Tasting Room
The Babcock tasting room is about halfway between Lompoc and Buellton, west of the 101 on the 246. It shares a common road with Melville, stay to the left and proceed up the hill. Upon parking you will see the tasting room, which is located right amongst the wine making facilities. Watch out for the forklifts if it is harvest season (sept-october).
The tasting room is located on the top of the hill overlooking the vineyard with gorgeous views to most directions. The house itself is smallish and has a rustic feel to it. There is nice patio and the staff is very well educated. But you come here for the wines!
Outstanding Chardonnays will highlight your visit, while winemaker Bryan Babcock crafts many excellent varietals. Their Rita’s Earth Pinot Noir is a standout single vineyard selection that is a standout for $20. Online viewers also recommend the Pinot Blanc, and the Sauvignon Blanc.
Despite the fact that Babcock’s winemaker is highly recognized, and their vineyard is in a prime location in the Sta. Rita Hills, their wines are still very reasonably priced. At the substance over style tasting room, you can taste 8 wines and get a logo glass for $10.
While in the area, you can stop by Foley and Melville to round out your day.
